About Pisa

Create lasting Memories in our Holiday Villas in Pisa

Most people come to Pisa for one thing, take a photograph, and leave. That is understandable, and also a shame. The Piazza dei Miracoli — the square that holds the cathedral, the baptistery, and the leaning tower — is genuinely extraordinary, but it is not the whole city. Behind it there is a university town with a real daily life: markets along the Arno, students on bicycles, trattorias that fill at lunchtime with people who are not consulting a guidebook. Pisa is more lived-in than most visitors realise, and more worth lingering in.
What makes Pisa interesting beyond the obvious is the layering. The Piazza dei Miracoli is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the great architectural ensembles in Italy — the tower is just one part of it, and the baptistery and cathedral hold their own easily. Away from the square, the city has a medieval character that runs through its streets and along the river. The Borgo Stretto, a covered arcade running through the centre, is where the city shops and meets. The Arno divides Pisa in a way that gives each bank its own identity, and the quieter southern side is where you start to feel the city rather than just see it.
Our team has been operating from this corner of Tuscany since 1984. This means we know the properties personally, we know the families who own them, and we have a good sense of which villas will keep you close to Pisa without placing you in the hustle and bustle of the city. We also know which locations are ideal for exploring beyond Pisa itself, whether that’s a day trip to the coast, a visit to Lucca, or a drive into the countryside. If you’re planning a stay in Pisa and need help choosing the right base, we’d be happy to assist you.
Pisa works well as a base for exploring western Tuscany in a way that is underestimated. The coast is twenty minutes away, Lucca is half an hour by road or rail, and Florence is reachable in under an hour. For guests who want to move around the region rather than stay in one place, Pisa offers genuine convenience without sacrificing character. The city itself rewards an evening: the Arno lit up after dark, a table outside somewhere along the river, and the Piazza dei Miracoli entirely your own once the day visitors have gone.
